Just getting started with The Sims 4? Here are 3 different pack types we recommend getting!
Are you just getting started with The Sims 4 thanks to the fact that it’s free-to-claim for the next 7 days? Do you want to expand The Sims 4 universe with official new content and features? You’ve come to the right place!
Before I begin, let me briefly explain the purpose of each pack for The Sims 4 and what they exactly do:
- An Expansion Pack is the biggest pack type out there that often features a brand new world, new clothing and objects, a whole lot of new features and interactions that usually have a much deeper affect on the entire gameplay. They cost $39.99
- A Game Pack brings almost the same things as an Expansion Pack – new items, sometimes a brand new world and extensive gameplay that’s usually tied into one strict theme. They cost $19.99
- A Stuff Pack is brings exactly what their title suggests – new stuff including CAS items, Build Items and a gameplay object or two that bring new interactions. They cost $9.99
Now that we’ve clarified to what each pack brings let’s get down to business as I give recommendations for each pack type!
Essential Expansion Pack – Seasons
The Sims 4 Seasons Expansion Pack is one of those packs that could’ve been included into the base game but luckily aren’t – and that’s for a good reason. Seasons was under development for quite a while for obvious reasons – the team had to bring 4 different seasons for each world (including worlds introduced with other packs) as well as feature a complex calendar feature.
Each Season can get quite unpredictable and you never know what each day will bring. From extremely hot to extremely cold temperatures to storms and strong winds, The Sims 4 Seasons will keep your Sims on their toes checking the forecast every now and then. Of course that the weather won’t be going crazy 24/7 and you can expect enrichened vistas and gorgeous views quite often.
The Calendar is probably one of the biggest reasons that make The Sims 4 Seasons an essential pack. Not only does it give you the ability to create your own holiday from scratch with numerous activities and interactions but with the calendar you can also plan out the entire week (and month) of your Sim’s activities by planning events, checking out your Sims’ work / school schedule and holidays that are coming up.
If you don’t have The Sims 4 Seasons then you can’t go wrong by making this purchase.
Essential Game Pack – Parenthood
The Sims 4 Parenthood Game Pack is one of those rare packs in the entire Sims Franchise that make the entire gameplay a lot more difficult – which is a good thing. Toddlers, Kids and Teens with this pack will have the opportunity to work on 5 different Character Values that will shape their future and make their adult days more easy or difficult, depending on how well you’ve worked on their upbringing.
Still, your younger Sims are not the only ones that get new gameplay. Adults and Elders also get a whole lot of new meaningful interactions, as well as a new Parenting Skill that allows the parents to be more influental and controling over their children.
Parenthood is probably one of the most complex packs we’ve gotten in a long time and for a Game Pack that’s $19.99 it’s no wonder it’s the most popular Game Pack that there currently is right now.
Essential Stuff Pack – Laundry Day
The Sims 4 Laundry Day Stuff Pack sounds like the most boring pack you could possibly recommend to another person, but there’s a good reason why this pack was chosen, affected and brought together by The Sims Team and The Community together.
Yes, the only new gameplay you get with Laundry Day are a new washing and drying machine, as well as a washing bucket and a clothline for those who prefer a more rural lifestyle. Still, this pack has some of the finest community-picked objects and Create A Sim items that we’ve seen in the entire Stuff Pack lineup we have (thus far).
If you want to get these packs altogether I suggest you bundle up using Origin’s Build Your The Sims 4 Bundle Feature. Getting these packs in bundle will save you 30% off the total cost!
What do you think are the most essential packs for The Sims 4? Let us know in the comments below!
The Sims 4 'Vampires' Pack is coming on January 24th 2017. Maxis really wanted to build out Vampires more than they have ever done before. The Vampires in the pack have their own motives and needs, focused around gaining enough Plasma, powers and sleep.
Plasma is what Vampires drink, and it comes in a few different varieties.
You'll be able to buy plasma packs if you want an instant solution or grow plasma fruits for a more long-term option. You also will have the option to drink plasma from other sims for a more vampire experience.
Vampires will have have powers like turning other Sims into Vampires, even moving around in different forms, and with more powers to be revealed in the following weeks. The power will affect your story. Gaining powers but also weaknesses will give you complete control about how you play your Vampire.

Alongside all of this, the 'Vampire' Pack will also add new create a Sim options.
Players will be able to customize their Vampire forms differently as much as they want. Sims can be born Vampires, but their powers won’t start until they are Teenagers. At that point, they’ll also stop naturally aging, but you will be able to get the birthday cake and allow them to age that way if you want to.
The Sims 4 'Vampires' Game Pack will also come with a new world called Forgotten Hollow, it's completely different from the other worlds and is perfect for Vampires to live there. It's all centered around a plaza area dedicated to Vlad, the founding Vampire of Forgotten Hollow. Maxis wanted it to feel like a centuries-old neighborhood with history and secrets. Vampires will show up sometimes in other worlds so players needs to keep an eye out for them.

The Sims 4 Vampires releases tomorrow, and with it the ability to live out your nightwalker dreams. But Vampire sims work a little different from regular sims. Here’s a few tips on how to make the most of being undead.
Consider an outdoors-y type.
You don’t need to drink from other sims to get your plasma—you can also eat Plasma Fruit or drink Plasma Packs. Vampire sims can order Plasma Packs from the Internet, but to save money, you could also harvest and plant a Plasma Fruit Tree, or make Plasma Packs out of fish and frogs you catch. The trait Loves the Outdoors and the Angling Ace Aspiration will give you a boost when it comes to gardening and fishing.
Get the most out of the Create A Sim options.
Vampire sims have two forms—their normal form and their “dark,” form. The normal sim form is the default, and they’ll switch over to the dark form when they do some vampire business, like drain another sim of their plasma. That means you don’t have to sacrifice checking out the new brows, teeth and facial markings just because you don’t want your sim looking like Nosferatu when they’re tryna hang. It’s kinda like Buffy style vamps: the bumpy face only comes out when something is about to go down.

Save up for better Vampire Powers.
The first set of Vampire Powers you can access aren’t all the impressive—instead of dumping your Power Points into turning into a bat, it’s better to save them and use them on Occult Student. Leveling that skill up will make Vampire Powers use less of your Vampire Energy. After you put six points into that it, you’ll get access to cooler powers, like the ability or command sims to clean for you, or a Vampiric Charm that makes romance easier. If you don’t feel like you’re earning points quickly enough, you can meet other vampires and ask that they tutor you in the dark arts.

Be nocturnal.
The game will tell you that Vampires won’t die in sunlight unless their Vampire Energy meter is depleted, but they don’t really let you know how fast that meter depletes. It goes real fast! It’s tempting to spend time in the sun knowing you won’t die right away, but it’s not worth it. You’ll hardly make it longer than a few hours, and more than once I’ve been in danger of bursting into flames. It’s much less nerve wracking if you avoid the sun as much as possible. The extra time you stay awake all night can be spent prowling Lounges and Nightclub for food, or leveling up in skills.

Living alone bites.
When you’re a low level Vampire that doesn’t yet have access to Plasma Packs or can’t find a Plasma Fruit Tree, grabbing a meal can be hard. Have you considered a roommate? While it gets easier to manage your unholy thirst once you level up enough, it can be dicey in the beginning. Having another sim in your household can mitigate that. Every time you compel them to allow you to drink has a chance to fail, however, and that can really damage the two sim’s relationships. Bummer!
